Yesterday’s workshop…

Yesterday’s Zoom workshop on “The Poetry Of Place” had twelve participants and was, I thought, pretty successful. I’ll likely do it again in the summer or fall, with some tweaks to timing of activities (and maybe some prework…) but overall I thought the conversion of a live session into a Webinar was OK.

Next time I’ll include the use of a couple of interactive tools I use in my corporate work to gain some more immediacy in practice sessions. I wanted to keep things simple this time around.

Thanks to those who attended, and I’m certainly going to add more topics to the menu over time.  If you have any ideas you’d like to see, you can put them in the comments…

Patreon news November 2022

I’ve been upping my Patreon page’s capabilities and revising the reward structure.

As I grow older, I’m trying to shift a greater part of my regular income to writing and music.  This has been especially and immediately important of late as I’m fighting off both some mild post-COVID brain fog and the usual winter season slowdown in my consulting business.

Patreon has proved to be a valuable resource for this.

In the coming year, I plan to introduce online workshops that will be free for those Patrons on the $10/level and up.  I’m also getting ready to release my end of the year 2022 eBook anthology, and a bonus eBook in the next couple of weeks of poems I’ve written over the years that are formatted or refer back to instruction manuals, operator’s guides, etc.  (I was surprised at how many of these there are, frankly.)

Only rarely do I come to the readers of this blog to bring up the Patreon site. I will ALWAYS keep this blog cost-free for my much-appreciated readers around the world. But right now, I’m pretty much broke.  And while I’ve used various funding appeal sites in the past (GoFundMe, etc.,) for emergencies, I LOATHE doing that. I’d rather offer something back in return for your support.

Once again, the Patreon site offers information about how to join and watch videos, hear audio tracks, and read discussions of craft and poetry that I hope will interest some of you.  Again, I’ll keep this site free — but any support will be appreciated and, I hope, of more value to you.

Thanks,
T

Still plugging away

Still plugging away at a full length manuscript, and still managing (for over three years now) to make some of my regular income from being a poet.

The Patreon site is here if anyone’s down to join up.  Quarterly rewards, eBooks, discussions on craft, etc. Come check it out and join in for as little as $1/month.

Onward,
T

Patreon post — appreciation video

I’ve mentioned here before that I have a Patreon where dedicated supporters contribute small amounts of money per month to help me maintain a steady income and do my work.

Most posts and perks of the site are not available to the public, but I made a post a couple of days ago in tribute to the late Robert Bly and I thought you might like to see it.

Enjoy.

RIP, Robert Bly

Look At You, Holy

Look at you there: holy,
solid, and still, as if all night
you had been walking the dark paths
of a once-familiar wilderness,
the death-sounds

of predation and mishap
nearly piercing you the whole way
— and now you’ve come
to a clearing and are standing there
under the blessing of the moon.

You cannot forget
the sounds that terrified you
but without them
pushing from all sides
you would not be here now.

Look at you, holy:
honoring the howling as holy;
as holy as this silence,
as holy as this light,
as holy as all else.

I’ve posted a rare public note on the craft behind this poem on my Patreon account, if you’re interested.

New eBook on the Patreon site

Just finished uploading a new eBook, “Pushpins And Thumbtacks,” to my Patreon site as an exclusive for my patrons. It’s a short collection of 10 poems on icons and cliches of American culture revisited, mostly recent and some developed as a result of prompts from patrons themselves.

While all of the poems appear here on the blog, I find that pulling together collections of them helps to focus and increase their impact.

All it takes to be part of the Work and support what I do at the Patreon site is a measly $1/month for many rewards; larger pledged amounts get access to more. I sincerely appreciate the support I receive and try to give back as much I can.

It has been difficult lately, but I hope to get back in the full swing of the Work shortly.

Onward,
T

The Patreon site is here.

Patreon site…

Just wanted to call out the fact that of late, there’s been a MASSIVE influx of interest in the blog, with hits jumping from 20-30 a day to the 130-160 a day range.  Thank you if you’re part of the new surge.

If you like what I’m doing, you can support my continued efforts with a monthly contribution to my Patreon site. For as little as $1 a month, you can gain access to exclusive behind the scenes posts on my work, critical essays on the work, and special collections — chapbooks and eBooks for the regular patrons.

While I guarantee that all the content here will always be free and available to all, I think the extra, curated content is a valuable extra.

If you’re interested, the link for that site is here.  Patreon site

Thanks in advance, and as always, thank you to my readers whatever your choice here.  Knowing you are out there is very comforting to me.

Project in progress

I don’t mention my Patreon site here very often, mostly because it’s chugging along fairly well through social media exposure alone.  That said, I’ve started a new project there that involves audience participation of sorts, and I’d feel bad if I didn’t offer you all a chance to get in on the fun.

The description is on the sit for patrons only, but the gist of it is that I’m working on a series with an aim toward creating a book at some point that will be available to patrons before anyone else sees it, as well as some tiered rewards that I’m still developing.

If you’d like to get in on the fun, you can for as little as one dollar a month minimum pledge.

Information about how Patreon works and how to get involved can be found here:

Tony’s Patreon site, of course.

Thanks!

Patreon news

Thought I would take a second to update you all on the Patreon site I use to help support my work.

I’ve had a couple of patrons drop from the site in the last couple of months due to other financial obligations. Completely understandable, and no shame attached.

That said…just wanted to say that even if you can’t become a patron for an artist’s work, letting other people know about it through social media sharing and word of mouth can be a big help.

On my site, even a minimum pledge of a dollar a month gets you weekly patron-only posts about the work, and right now I’ve even made an exclusive eBook available for download for ALL patrons — a “Best of” collection of poems from 2017. It’s right there waiting for everyone and anyone who pledges.

Thanks again to everyone, patron or not, for any and all of your support.

Patreon Update

Just letting folks know that the Patreon site I set up to help fund some of my work has been growing quite steadily, and as a result I was able to pay for a host of Web-related fees for this and the band’s site at the beginning of the month.

I’ll be releasing a limited edition eBook of selected poems as a perk for higher-level patrons in September, which is exciting.

If you want to check out the site, it is at https://www.patreon.com/TonyBrown.  Always happy to have new patrons, btw…

And the band’s Website that I mentioned earlier?  That’s at http://theduendeproject.com .

Posts on the Patreon Blog

I’ve started getting even more patrons on the new Patreon site, and have begun putting up some short critical essays on aspects of my poetry that are available to patrons only.

It’s gratifying to have some of you be willing to offer some material support for what I do.  It’s already making a difference in my monthly resources, and for that I thank you from the bottom of my ink-stained heart.

I want to reiterate that the POETRY, all of it, will ALWAYS be here and always be available for free.  Only supplemental content will be available on the Patreon site behind a paywall of sorts.  This may include some eBooks, videos, audio, etc., but the poems will always be here.

If you’d like more information on all of this…you can use the link below, and there’s also a link up at the top of the page on the Dark Matter blog itself that can help you.

Thanks in advance,
T

Patreon update

I’ve recently made a number of posts, including a short essay on recent poems, over on my Patreon page.  For the most part, these are available to those who have pledged at varying levels there.

I want to stress that all of the poems I write will ALWAYS remain available here for free.  But in an effort to earn some income from this work, I think that providing more deeply curated and connected selections, along with some expository prose, is a good way to go.

If you’d like to consider being a part of that community, the link above can show you how to do it. in addition, there’s a permanent description and link to that site in the pages seen at the top of the Dark Matter site itself.

Thanks for your time.

Patreon update

Many thanks to those of you who’ve spent some time looking at the Patreon site I recently created, with special thanks to those of you who’ve pledged.  I’m prepping the first rewards now; it’s a slow process due to a pinched nerve I have in my hand which is hindering my typing to some extent.  But it’s exciting, and I’ll be sending them out soon.

For more information, you can visit the site here, or check out the related page on this site under the tab at the top of the home page.

Thanks,
T

Patreon page added

I’ve added a page to the main menu here.

If you look at the header on the blog site, you’ll find a page labeled “Patreon” which has information and a link to my monthly crowdfunding effort.

Again, I’ll never make the blog anything other than free to all.  If you’d like to join the community of folks who’ve gotten involved in funding any of my other work, the information to do that is on that page.

Thanks in advance.

Big Step

Hi, folks…

I’ve made a decision and wanted to let you all in on it.

In an effort to make life a little easier, I’ve gone ahead and created a Patreon site.  Patreon is a site that allows artists to develop a monthly income to help them create freely with less financial pressure.

You don’t need to sign up; the Dark Matter blog is going to remain free regardless of whether this works out or not. I’m merely presenting the link to you if you’re interested.

All the background and information is here.

Thanks in advance,

Tony
