Trajectory

Originally posted on 7/28/2013.

You see yourself
as a mere trajectory, a clear arc

from yesterday to now, a line in mid-air
revealing origin, predicting destination.

What about now? Are the lines
around your mouth right now just a residue?

Face yourself for once. That arc behind you
is smoke. Are you really still on fire?

Interesting interpretation! I like it. I was actually thinking more of those who see the past tragedies of their lives as defining them, rather than trying to be comfortable with where they are right now. But the other way works just as well. Thanks.

My name means light and I deluded myself into thinking I would somehow morph into a meteor blazing across the sky. At 77 I have realized the folly of that expectation, but find that I’m not totally dissatisfied with having been a lightning bug.
