tuesday’s struggle
forgotten by thursday
if it makes it to the sermon
by sunday at the latest

the monday after?
smiles, everyone,
smiles
fantasy island awaits

if we were honest
with ourselves
all would be wails
and frowns

but a little bread a little circus
a little zombie
a couple of dancing stars
some substitute vampires

we’ll bare
our teeth
with them
smiles everyone smiles

say men in excellent
tropical weight suits
with pockets of magical fulfillments
smiles everyone smiles
