Thought you might find this enjoyable…nicked from Rich Villar.

On what seems, somehow, to be a related note, the new Zero Point Zero is up…a gentle comparison of poetry and masturbation.
Trying to take the high road in my last few columns.
Please, dear readers, be good enough to lend a hand to my efforts here .

And then there were seven…only seven more columns left.
Still thinking about how to end this. Thoughts?

Re: Alas…
Apparently there’s something “weird” happening with web connections at work (which sucks because I’m the one who is suppose to figure out what’s going wrong {shrug}).
I guess I’ll have to give the article a look from home. Which is probably best.

For the Chicago Nationals last year, PSI had applied for an NEA grant and received $30,000. “But this year they just . . .forgot. Slipped their minds,” explains Stephanie Williams, the Marketing Director for Word in Motion.
they did not forget.
an NEA grant is not something they just give you year after year. Chicago worked hard to get the one-time grant. STL could have/should have gone after their own grants & funding.
they have been tossing all of the blame at everyone except themselves.
what it comes down to (for me)is this…
*PSI should have kept a closer eye on exactly what STL was doing/not doing
*STL should have been more honest about their troubles & accepted help when it was offered. (& it was offered a few times)
*STL needs to admit that they screwed up & offer suggestions on how PSI & host cities can avoid things like this from happening again.
yes, PSI made mistakes, but 95% of this mess falls on STL & the only ones who don’t see that are STL. i have talked with a lot of people about this & i have yet to find someone who thinks this was not STL’s fault.
the fact that they are still pointing fingers makes me wonder just why they are protesting so much.
i’ll leave it at that.

From the article:
Brewster comments, “All the other host cities said, ‘you’ll hate each other, and you’ll hate PSI.’ And I don’t know that we hate PSI. . . we hate some of the things they stand for. You don’t ask for a group of volunteers, take all the money, and then turn around and blame them on top of it. That is the most pathetic style of management that I’ve ever seen [ . . .] You don’t treat volunteers that way. You treat them like gold.” How can poetry gain more respect in a sports and beer city like St. Louis? What can we do to strengthen the Slam scene specifically?
Somehow, this doesn’t quite jibe with other accounts, does it?
