Vessel

Am I where I am
desired to be?
No money to speak of;
my left leg
gimpy, left arm
numb from the wrist;
my brain softer
than I’m used to
and my memory,
such as it is, does not
work all the time;
still, something put me here
and wants me here, wriggling,
worm on a hook or maybe even
on the ground after rain, waiting
to be picked up and tossed
or used as food or enticement
and then, confident
in the short term,
let myself be as I am
no matter how it feels;
let myself fail or triumph
regardless of my own effort,
let myself be a vessel
of someone else’s peace.
