Shameless Horn Tooting

Happy Thanksgiving indeed…grateful and pleased to hear that my poem “The Blood I Can Draw” has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize by the good folks at Radius.

Very honored — they have a lot of amazing work to choose from and it’s nothing I would have expected. Thanks!

Maybe fourth time will be the charm… 😉

Congratulations on the prize! As for celebrating mass genocide and stolen land, I will pass. Fortunately, we don’t hear about it here in France!

I pass on celebrating such things too, Lea…as a Mescalero Apache, they are pretty much in my face most days during the rest of the year. In my family, we’ve gone back and forth over the topic over the years and have come to an accommodation: we celebrate the spirit of the day — family, etc. — without feeling a need to connect such a celebration to the racist origin myth that has come to be attached to it. I don’t judge others for what they choose to do, however, and certainly don’t keep silent when I see the offensive stuff being invoked in the holiday’s name.

Don’t get me started on Columbus Day, though.
