Twelve people, locked in a room, plow through mounds of evidence and testimony for seven days and determine that based on what was presented, they do not have sufficient evidence to find Jackson guilty of anything.
The rest of us, based on our superior intelligence, decide that they’re idiots, based on the coverage we’ve seen of the case from the media we indict regularly for being sensationalist.
God, I love this country.
I think Jackson’s a creep. I have an opinion about his guilt. I also think I haven’t got a clue if he’s really guilty or not.
The people entrusted to make that decision did have some clue. I have no idea what they were thinking; but I’m willing to bet they thought about it harder than any of us did.

Re: I thought it was illegal…
no, because he wasn’t charged with posession of child porn. But I do remember that in the grand jury there was a question of the accuser’s fingerprints on a pornographic magazine. Maybe it was just gay porn (not illegal).
However, I won’t get into the issue of pedophiles using adult pornography (ie: a man showing a girl Playboy) to try and “convince” them it’s natural. Maybe I just need to write some poems.
The jury members came down to the fact that the child wasn’t a reliable witness because of his background.

I like
how different media outlets say “found not guilty” and those that say “the jury didn’t find him guilty BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT.”
It may well be that jackson, who has been managed since he was a small child, and has never lived in what the rest of the world calls “reality”, is capable of pedophilia in the broader, psycological context. To wit: He never grew up. In many ways he’s an undeveloped child. But even if you see the sexual charges as less predation and more “playing doctor”….well, it’s still fuckin’ creepy and he still needs help.
But that’s just my opinion. And since (as you pointed out) I haven’t seen the evidence the jury deliberated over, so my opinion is just like my ass wholey mine, and not really fit for public sharing.
As a footnote, the best joke I heard during all this was Tina Fey on SNL Weekend Update who said, in reaction to Michael being absent or late from court because he had to be hospitalized,
“..and treated for exhaustion. Strange, I would’ve thought they’d have treated him for the pedophilia…”

I really agree with you, and I’m glad you said it. Everyone – coworkers, friends, etc., think he should have been found guilty. I feel alittle uncomfortable with making those kinds of assumptions w/o the 14 weeks of depositions they juror’s got.

Re: I thought it was illegal…
Yeah, as much as I think he’s really, really creepy, there’s that whole reasonable doubt factor that the jury has to consider, and I didn’t follow it closely enough to make a decision. My reaction was “oh, well, that’s a surprise (note the tone of sarcasm)”. Also, I really hope he learns something from this, like “get a fucking clue, guy….when the media is all over your ass, stop shacking up with little boys, no matter how innocent you claim it is. To continue that behavior after the first incident was just unbelievably stupid.” There is some serious pathology going on with the man, pedophile or not pedophile.

Re: I thought it was illegal…
see, this is my point.
a jury looked at evidence for 30 hours and decided he didn’t own child porn and didn’t molest the child.
and they did it with minimal disagreement, it sounds like. only two votes.
but we all know better because fox news told us so.
and that’s why i love this country.

Re: I thought it was illegal…
I totally think so as well. How can somebody who owns gaya child porn and sleeps with children in his bed not be convicted? Okay, I admit that we all probably just don’t know enough of the details of what’s going on in Ranch (I also don’t want to know), but if what the media said about those points is true, then I just don’t get it.
However, another thing that made me just mad was that they interrupted every other programme on TV because of that. See, here in Germany it was just about prime time (11pm) when I was watching the very first episode of Taken. I’ve been looking forward to see it for weeks and after 5 minutes, they interrupted it for 50 (!) minutes, just to say over and over again that we’ll might get to know ‘every moment’ what’s the deal with MJ. Anyways…

I thought it was illegal…
…to posesss child pornograpy, and it was mentioned that he had gay child porn. That’s just sick. People who buy those magazines aren’t just looking at them and fantasizing about it.
People with money get away with shit. If that was any other “normal” person, it wouldn’t have happened. He would’ve been up the river the time he paid off the first accuser. That people surround him, don’t make him get help and deny that he’s got some serious sexual issues if not outright pedophilia becaue he’s their cash cow are wrong.
I shouldn’t be on a jury like that (and never will be anyway). I know how it feels to be the person saying someone molested you and being called a liar. That’s what they basically did to the accuser. His mother may have been a money-grubbing, manipulative person, but if her boy was abused, it shouldn’t fucking matter. The boy is a teenager now, and he’s starting to get teen attitudes, and I’m sure he doesn’t remember everything exactly (if it did happen as he said it). Expecting perfect recall from anyone, much less a sexually abused child, is just wrong.
Sorry, guys, but I see a pervert making justifications and people surrounding him and supporting his addiction and justification. He won’t stop, and nobody will ever want to stand up and accuse him again. They know what happens to someone who does.
Then again, I think all child molesters should be put in the stocks in the town square with a detailed list of the charges printed and pinned up next to them. No abuse, just all the people going by knowing exactly what they did, and having them look at the molester like the scum that they are. A child doesn’t have a choice, but if the adult has a harmful addiction like that, it’s his responsibility to get help.

And certainly, the prosecution’s case would have been helped if their witnesses hadn’t all (as far as I remember — only followed at work) tried to capitalize on it at one point or another.
The fact is, it’s entirely possible Jackson is just a freak whose eccentricity has been abused by people seeking profit. Or, he got away big with a serious crime.
Impossible to say from here.

I was watching court TV today (briefly) and one of their experts was saying that the jury might do this or that, based on whether they believed he was guilty.
Does everyone forget that it doesn’t matter whether one believes that he’s guilty? It only matters if the prosecution proves he’s guilty.
