Spring is in the air, and all I can smell is fresh clean earth and new-mown grass.
This makes me nostalgic for…NYC. For taxi fumes and fermented garbage, for unexplained puddles of guck and freakish outbursts that are ignored by the other passers-by.
I think I gotta get myself a gig or two down thar.

Re: Your poetry…
You’re welcome. I shared it with someone who I consider a lifelong friend (five years, but still feels like lifelong) and I knew it would resonate.
Strangely, we both like the poultice line best.
Or maybe not so strangely. I think we specialize in being each others’ poultice, sometimes.
Thank you for writing and caring. On a day when I needed this friend to help me out of the depths of the deepest suicidal depression I’ve felt in years, contriubted to by the need for the media to make a circus that had nothing to do with the ten years since those lives were lost in Oklahoma City (the part that I remember most and that gives me the most to struggle with – those people), I knew that my friend and I both needed to be reminded of what mattered most to us about our country.
As he reminded me, that is power and beauty – words. Words that help, words that heal, words that question, words that raise an alarm or ask for someone to care….all of it.
My eyes are sandpapered over from crying,
but I smile.
Thank you.

Your poetry…
…touches people all over.
I carry around a copy of the freedom poem with the line about “late at night I boil it to make a poultice…” and I showed it to a good friend of mine who has always loved (though never performed live before). He said “that is amazing.”
Don’t ever stop. Yeah, slow down sometimes, but don’t ever stop. You have a gift. I just wanted to remind you of that.

I know when i am really down…. I run to the great north… where people don;t speak english…
I am about to to escape myself.
A change of senery can make a world of diffrence…. if nothing more than to be away from people who already think they know you, and can;t keep up when you change. SMILE.
