What a great event.
It was cathartic to read “Dispatch…” last night. I had retired it, partially because of the emotions it brought up —
and doing it last night, it felt right that I had retired it, and that I had brought it out as well.
It turns out that one of the women who spoke last night had lost her husband, who happened to be sitting next to Robin Kaplan, one of my friends, on Flight 11. We hugged, talked, and it was good.
They are going to hang my poem, “Gift”, on the caisson of the stone as they walk.
No, I don’t miss Nationals. Not at all.
If you’re in Boston, come see me tonight at the Cantab, where I’ll be featuring…we’ll talk non-slam stuff and read poetry.
love,
T

I am so bummed – I had been looking forward to meeting you and hearing you read, ever since you told me about this gig weeks and weeks ago – but then I was informed that this writing group I’ve been waiting to join had an opening, and they wanted me to start…tonight. So I to go. Such a pity, to pit hearing good poetry against attending a writing group. Why couldn’t you conflict with, say, a meeting I was expected to attend?
Anyway, keep me posted on upcoming performances. And one of these days I’ll get out to Worcester.

excellent
i’m happy things worked out so well, tony.
nps is fun and wacky and a good party and yet so often the good work that poetry can do often gets lost there. i think it shows up at the day events mostly. sometimes on finals night.
and at the same time what you did last night is what poetry is for. the speaking of the unspoken things. getting the words and feelings of our cumbersome language out into the atmosphere to breathe. and then maybe we can realize we are not so far apart from each other.
well done.
