Some random thoughts…

I’m in the home stretch of waiting for the appointment with my new meds guy next week.

I already feel better, but shaky as hell; feel like the least blow will throw me off.

I’m also struck by the number of people who have told me to simply “cheer up”, or who have offered their own tips for how to not “feel blue”, or who have said, “well, we all get that way near the holidays…”

So, for the record, here are some things I’ve tried that don’t work for me, to save you some time…

— Full spectrum lighting
— The Bible
— Meditation
— Just making room for “me time”
— Journaling, or (alternately) “writing out my feelings in poetry” (I shit you not — from someone IN MY FAMILY last week!)
— A glass of wine after dinner
— Getting more sleep ( this to a chronic insomniac with severe sleep apnea)

Thank you.

I’ve decided that the CD with Bob Jordan will likely be new work written for the project. Maybe even some of the Fugue State work would be appropriate…

I really need to buy a new laptop. We’re down to a one computer household, and with my wife doing all her business stuff (she runs a marketing firm out of the house) on the existing desktop, we’re fighting for computer time left and right.

Her laptop died sometime ago, and my Powerbook is on longterm loan to my brother in law (an old model I hadn’t used much lately).

Come to think of it, SHE should buy the laptop for the business.

    Re: A Bottle of Wine…MMMMMM…

Fuck dinner, just hand me the jug, baby!

I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy. (where is that quote from? I can’t remember… maybe Tom Waits?)

is actually an attractive thought right about now.

    A Bottle of Wine…MMMMMM…

And if a bottle is good, a case must be BETTER.

    Strangely enough,

I just had fondue on Saturday, and it DID cheer me up.

Well, that and the Heroin. I was over at Pinsky’s place.

Yours in a high pitched voice,

i know you’re not askin’ for methods, but i have to throw this in or i’ll feel like a jerk for not –

    on organic methods:
i know i’m a total poster child for Slacking, but when i did not slack, the yoga helped A LOT (which may have something to do with how i’ve been the last few months, yo) – the gentle stuff was ok… but i found it was the really energetic stuff that got the funk out. (i do have to warn that everytime i start on a new regimen there’s some rage stuff that comes out for a few days – beware the new yoga program – but just for a little while.)

as an aside, seated meditation freaks me out & causes anxiety attacks for me. i usually end up crying.

    BUT –

you already know this prolly has something to do with the meds, right? consider: when was the last time you changed your course, & did it take you long to get your footing? one more week to the next try – this may be the one that worx long-term, right?

hang on, yo – we’ve got yer back, Brown.

I’m actually surprised that you don’t have a carefully practiced, oft applied “happy face.” Or maybe the seeping cracks in your plastic cheeks were a dead giveaway?

In any case, I recommend half spectrum lighting, video poker, and a bottle of wine after dinner. And a new computer.

Other Ideas That Probably Won’t Cheer You Up

    –Heroin
–Reading the Collected Works of Robert Pinsky
    –A Surprise Castration
    –The New Chubawumba CD
–Wearing a lampshade as a hat
    –Fondue
–A glass of strichnine before dinner
    –Genital Herpes

Just remember, it’s not important that you cheer up, it’s important thet you use Cheer brand detergent to whiten your whites and brighten your day.

Sorry you had to deal with crappy advice. Especially the suggestion that you write your thoughts down. I think hearing that statement would have cheered me up…after I killed said person.
