Storms Then Sewage

A human interest story asserts,
“One surprising thing
hiding in your hair
right here, right now,
is underneath it and in fact
is not touching the hair
at all;”
and over there in the papers
is a fellow named Clyde
with a babe named Matilda —
God knows
I forget their names sometimes
and reverse them;
“Storms Then Sewage”
is the headline on an online news story
I won’t bother to read but will think about,
at least I will think about that title
all day
wondering: will I have to choose one
to get crazy over;
can I keep them
all compacted;
is there any common thread
to all of them;
or should I go back to reading all of them in turn
and then put my head down, saying
“too much…too soon…”
and weep?
