New Morning

New morning:
cat sleeping nearby
as always.

Ordinary day:
something like bluegrass
on the radio;

something like sweetness
on the radio with it;
all acoustic music

and that is fine.
Legs and heart are strong,
though the mind…

I draw the curtain
over the mind. Ordinary day.
Cat sleeping as always;

head up, eyes closed;
a morning like any morning:
my time.  My only time.

    I like how the cat is both a physical being in the physical world, and an interior mental being in the mind.

    I was talking to a friend and former student, and in the course of the conversation I said something like, “It’s important to understand that our interior realms are at least as large as our exterior realms. We live in a world in which the Andromeda galaxy and Jupiter are both physical objects ‘out there’, but they are also mental objects ‘in here’,” and here I tapped the side of my head.

    And he was thunderstruck for several moments, rocked back in his chair. He said, after a bit, “That’s obviously correct. And I never thought about it that way, as a scientist. But the mental landscape is possibly larger, too, because it contains the potential for wholly imaginary worlds, too.”

    Strange and lovely, how music crosses over the boundaries easily between the interior and exterior worlds.
