I follow
a same-every-morning routine
of
blood drop,
breakfast,
coffee,
screen and keys
into
an unknown chaos called
the day,
much as I might follow
a constant called
North Star
into
darkness;
tugged along thus by hope
and discipline,
I can be certain
that even if clouds move in,
when they are gone
that star
will be there again.

Thank you, again.

I really liked the ambiguity and darkness of the choice of words “Blood drop” which, while i suspect it refers to diabetes, could in fact refer to all sorts of, well, “dark matter”….and because this was not immediately clear to me it was a very good thing as I love poems that leave me a little in the lurch at first. I also like your following the days routine into a daily chaos (of more or less familiar things) but being unafraid to liken it to following the North Star into a greater darkness…
This is a really nicely put together poem, and it says a lot more, quietly, than it might at first appear. Well done!
