I love
the black hat
it feels great
to say that
look close
white hat’s
dirty
while black hat’s
not
or not showing anyway
I love the black hat
just for that
how in its blackness
it absorbs what it attracts
and if you call it
symbolic of evil or uniform
for outlaw games then
you miss that it integrates
messy experience more than
the white hat does
I love putting on
the black hat
watching people hear me
differently
seeing what I can
slip by with
learning so much more
than if I were villainous
in
white

I got an all white outfit the other day. People were stunned. Black hats now, well you know when the law turns nasty the outlaws are the good guys… I like black hats too

Yup. Sometimes the black hat is the only hope there is.

There’s more than J.R. and Stetsons here.
I gifted my daughter a little black fedora
which she adored
~~ still does
when she first wore it
friends made quiet inquires
“So, then, um, you’ve decided to do the ninja assassin thing, huh?”
“Oh yeah. Pays much better than soccer goalie for the same insane head skill set.”

I do believe your poem has lead me to one of my own.
Thank you VERY much, Tony Brown.

Remember, J.R. wore a white Stetson…
That alone says something! 🙂

Exactly.
