gentrification (rewrite from last night)

two old men walk in front of me,
discussing a recent robbery.
one says, this is why i never carry money,
i just leave it in the liquor store.
the other one laughs.

i twist the earbuds deeper.
somebody rich sings a rock song
and the neighborhood disappears.
