Context is everything

I was listening to BBC this AM as they interviewed a Lebanese protester.

She was talking about the uprising against the government and said something like, “…the opposition is in the streets and our objective is to topple the government.”

And then, she said:

“They will learn that the revolution will not be televised…”

And I got goosebumps, again, for the first time in years.

    I am saddened

everytime I think about, or am reminded of, Gil Scott Heron. Such a fantastic writer and performer, and currently he’s doing a 15 year sentence (i believe that’s right) because of another drug-related bust.

At the sentencing, the judge said he was doing it because he didn’t know how else to keep Gil Scott from killing himself with crack.

    Crack, for Christ’s sake…

from the man who wrote “Angel Dust”

damn, I hope he’s doing as well as his cultural/political legacy is.
