A Moth

I watch a moth
strike repeatedly
at a candle flame
until she falls
in ruins.

I shudder
because that,
I suspect,
is how the future
begins and ends:

in attraction,
obsession,
entrapment,
and at last
a release
that costs you
everything you have.

Philosophical – aren’t moths blind but for the light – this is a very interesting small piece with a huge significance (if moths are indeed unable to see as humans do – I’m not certain of that now I’ve said it.) Fodder for thought … thanks.

They aren’t blind, but flying into the light blinds them temporarily. The question of what actually can see is open but it’s not much in any case.

      Thanks for reading…T
