New Jack City Redux

Watching
“New Jack City”
for the first time
since the first time
I watched it, I’m compelled
to ask why
I felt the need to watch it
again —

then again,
I am watching it again.

Some stories
just feel like
a pistol in your hand
or a knife in your pocket.

You carry them
convinced of their utility
even though it was bad dialogue
that talked you into
picking them up
in the first place.
